Hello from the other side!
My name is Elisa, travel and wine blogger with a passion for adventure and beauty around the world, always hungry for more! I started the Flitter Fever travel blog in January 2016 as an information source for other travel lovers. When traveling, I like going that extra mile. Also for my readers. You may expect me to share in my articles my personal experiences and tips like I am talking to my best friend.
As a Dutch kid I wandered though the local library for travel guides, mostly about the US at the time (Florida!!). At the age of 16 I was determined to explore our beautiful planet myself. My trip to New Zealand and Hong Kong in 2001 got me hooked on travel. Life became a journey.
If you can dream it, you can do it!

I set up my first travel related website in 2005, and my first travel blog in 2006, all focused on American destinations. How could I have imagined what travel blogging would look-like so many years laterā¦?! I studied abroad (USA) and worked hard. Started with peeling tulip bulbs from the age of 10 to earn my first own money. I worked as promotor for a study abroad program, earning the US minimum wage. And eventually, worked my way around the world. My motto is: work hard and enjoy your travels harder!
A friend of mine passed away during her honeymoon trip in 2010. This is still my biggest inspiration to travel as much as possible. Life is short, better enjoy it to the fullest!
Borderless epicurean, travel addict, passionista on the goā¦ there are many ways to describe me. Hopefully you will perceive me as engaging enthusiast. My experiences during the past 20 years of traveling in 60+ countries (still counting…) gave me some interesting insights, stories and knowledge to share. Things you do not find in the average travel guide. I hope this website will help you to enjoy your own trips to the max. Despite the fact that I am not a native English speaker, I decided to write this blog in English as I’d like to reach and be in touch with people from all over the world.
While surfing my website and reading my blog posts, you might notice that I enjoy traveling in many different ways. Road tripping at Cuba or Ireland, cuddling cows or husky dogs in Finnish Lapland, snorkling the Adriatic Sea or with manta rays near Bali, city trips combined with things like concerts in New York or Paris, taking a cooking class and sipping wine on an Italian farm, etc. Although I have visited some great countries up to 7 times, I really like variety and see ‘new’ countries too. I hope to inspire you to do the same, in your own unique way.
If you think that adventure is dangerous, try routine. It’s killing.
Besides traveling I am also passionate about wine, animals and music, preferably a combination of two, three or all four. Next to travel blogging I work as Marketing Manager in Animal Health. In my previous job as international sales trainer I used to travel for work almost every week. Nowadays I travel almost every month (mostly private).
- Curious why I chose Flitter Fever as the name of my travel blog? Read all about it here.
- Wonder which countries I visited and wrote a blog about? Then check out the page Where I’ve Been.
- I also really like writing travel reviews (hotels, restaurants, attractions, etc.) on Tripadvisor. I actually belong to the top 1% of reviewers from Amsterdam and surroundings!
